About Curtis Scott, Chicago Dog Trainer
owner of Canis Familiaris
Curtis is a highly sought after and successful chicago dog trainer serving the Chicagoland and tri-state areas. He has been training and rehabilitating dogs for fifteen years now and has helped hundreds of families – families who were about to give up their beloved pet, who just couldn’t deal with their dog’s issues. Because of him, many dogs that were about given away or put down are in permanent loving, stable and happy homes.
He teaches owners how to get the desired behavior they want from their dogs through positive reinforcement and unique methods designed just for them. As he says, “my goal is to enhance the human-dog relationship while also improving the dog’s quality of life.”
His very effective and compassionate training methods have been written about in several newspapers including the Northwest Indiana Times, the Lake County Post-Tribune, the Suntime News Group and the Redeye. He was recently featured on Fox News Chicago (WFLD), CBS (Channel 2) and Lakeshore News Tonight (northwest Indiana). Check out the Press section for more information.

"As I read this poem I thought of you and how you teach us mere humans to be with Gods gifts. I just wanted you to know how grateful I am that you are in our lives."

Why you should use Curtis as your Chicago dog trainer/behaviorist
-His rates are reasonable, it won't cost you an arm and a leg and you'll get feedback and improvement, often within three sessions.
"Curtis is a dependable, affordable and generous dog trainer. His training technique started by becoming friends with my dog, followed by commands that they practiced repetitively and then rewards that Spazz really liked. Curtis knows a lot about how dogs think and why they behave the way that they do."
-Kerry & Spazz
-He's an expert when it comes to working with rescue dogs and dogs with bad tempers.
"Mikey is a shelter dog who came in very aggressive (you can see by the picture). He was constantly showing his teeth and growling. Poor guy was scared of everything in life, but no wonder, he was allegedly a fighting dog at a ring in Gary, Indiana. After working with him for a while, Curtis saw his potential – that he wouldn’t always be this way if he got in with the right environment and right people. Today, Mikey is a happy, healthy dog who loves to sit in people’s laps in the office. Who would have figured? I love this dog! Thank you, Curtis."
-April and Mikey
-He's got lots of experience in helping families who have multiple dogs, especially those with aggressive tendencies.
"When I adopted my three pit/mastiff mix puppies, they were a joy to be with. They had taken training classes and were given the seal of approval by the instructors. But when they reached the age of two, they began to fight with each other. Being the only person in the house, I became afraid of them. I thought I would have to give them up.
Then Curtis came into our life. With some very detailed coaching for me, I realized my dogs were in control of me and not the other way around. Curtis helped us all and now my boys and I are very happy. It’s a joy to take them places and show off how well behaved they are."
-Deanna & Andy, Charcoal and Joe
-He's good at helping successfully bring a second dog into the household.
"I adopted an abused pit bull who had been used for dog fighting. After two sessions, Curtis worked his magic and I felt comfortable living with my first dog, Edison and my new pitbull, Chuckles."
-Kyle and Chuckles
-He has had incredible success in training and re-homing rescue dogs and many of them have been through a lot.
"PAWS Chicago is a no-kill organization that requires us to find alternatives to euthanasia for pets with behavioral issues. We need trainers and behaviorists who can work with new adopters as well as assist in the difficult shelter setting. Curtis Scott of Canis Familiaris can do it all. He has evaluated and set up protocols for us and helps families with their new dog at home. He sets himself apart with his individual approach, dedication and versatile experience. I highly recommend Curtis whether you have a Poodle with separation anxiety, or a Pit Bull that just needs some basic training!"
